Cover:

The first thing you notice is its brilliance. Nothing sells like a first impression. Beauty is a good thing, even in a mattress. Or maybe, especially in a mattress. Made from the highest quality Belgian Damask, the cover on the 4 inch thick European Box Pillow Top is tack and jump stitched which keeps the cover at it's fullest and most luxurious profile, with a deep, soft feel. Quilted within the pillow top is two inches of impression resistant Quiltflex™ and 18 ounces of natural wool blend. Quiltflex™ is a revolutionary foam that virtually eliminates the possibility of body impressions. When tested in quilting construction, QuiltFlex™ retained 90 percent of its original loft, even after tests that simulated 10 years of average use. QuiltFlex™ also consistently offers approximately 20 percent greater airflow under compression than fiber and is capable of picking up and dissipating 9 times the moisture of standard fiber. It then dissipates that moisture 4 times faster than fiber. It's amazing stuff - and we have it. The Quiltflex™ is combined with one of nature's most beautiful products - wool. Sheep love it, we love it, you'll love it. Wool is natural, biodegradable, renewable, and recyclable. Because it is a natural fiber grown without extensive use of herbacides and fertilizers, it is durable, healthy, animal-friendly (sheep like to be shaved now and then), hypo-allergenic, and naturally flame retardant. But the most amazing attribute of wool is its ability to regulate and insulate. It provides superior comfort in hot and cold weather. Today there are many textile fibers, but science has not been able to produce another fiber containing all the natural attributes of wool. Wool remains unique; a masterpiece of nature!

The Quiltflex and wool are quilted into Belgian Damask cover. Just below the quilted portion of the cover is a zipper that, magically, unzips to allow access to the lower portion of the pillowtop. Here is where the specialty foam lies. Visco elastic memory foam or European style latex or a combination of both. The customer can see and feel the foam by accessing it through the special zipper, and more importantly, will be able to switch out the foam at any time for any reason. This is a huge benefit for the customer, giving them many options to change the feel of their mattress. They can put any type of foam in this part of the mattress, so if they feel like they would like a change, they can do it. If they want to try latex instead of visco, all they have to do is get a piece of latex and put it in. If they feel that the foam they have is too soft or too firm, they can change it out instantly. If they feel that the foam that is in there is losing it's flex or is wearing out in any way, they can buy a new piece and replace it. This is a huge advantage for a customer. They can keep their mattress feeling fresh, new, and lively for however long they own it.

Air Chambers:

The air chambers are made from genuine European vulcanized rubber. They are cloth backed and double thick for durability and are a full 6 inches deep. The air chambers use a cross vertical and horizontal baffle construction that creates square pockets of air that provide uniform support and comfort from head to toe. The 24 gauge rubber uses a vulcanization process that virtually eliminates all seams. The material actually flows together and becomes a one piece construction. The natural cotton backing material is adhered chemically to the latex. This creates a soft, smooth texture and at the same time eliminates air leakage through the pores of the rubber. The chamber borders are double seamed with two 1.25 inch seams, one reinforcing the other. Double sealing creates a more reliable support system for years of proven longevity and trouble free use. Inside the air chambers you will find our incredibly strong I-Beam construction. Other companies talk about I-beam construction, but they don't use the same system we do, usually using a single sided sealing system (try saying that 10 times fast). Our I-Beams are made up of two layers of canvas and two layers of rubber bonded together to join the top and the bottom of the air chamber. Where the I-Beam meets the top and bottom of the chamber, the canvas/rubber layers flair out each way, offering twice the holding power of a single sided system for extra strength and years of durable use. The sophisticated baffling system of our chambers creates little square pillows of air that keep the spine aligned for maximum comfort and support without the hammocking that can occur with some other air chambers you may find out there. Our square pillow system evenly supports the entire body, no matter whether you sleep on the edge of the bed or with a soft or firm inflation level. Because this design eliminates the need for a foam wedge between dual air chambers, sleepers can sleep in the middle of the mattress without feeling anything but the ultra comfortable mattress they purchased, and without the sensation of rolling toward the middle of the bed, regardless of the selected inflation level. Before shipping, each air chamber is thoroughly tested to ensure years of trouble free use.

Pump and controls:

The Golden Bear includes our top-of-the-line pneumatic pump complete with two 4-function ergonomic controls. The dual controls are ergonomically designed and easy to use, including LED readouts. Some air beds use black LCD digits on a grey background, which can be hard to see. The LED (Light Emitting Diode) design makes seeing the firmness level easy, even in a dark bedroom. The Silver Bear controls offer 50 comfort settings, way more than the 20 of another leading brand we all know. Obviously the more comfort settings possible, the more likely a sleeper will find the comfort setting that's just right for them. Our comfort settings are very accurate, in fact scientifically so. We use the scientific measurement mm/HG (millimeters of Mercury) to measure the 50 firmness levels offered. This is the same measurement scientists use to map pressure points on sleep surfaces. This means that our settings are very accurate and relevant, rather than arbitrary and irrelevant (like the "other" guys), and that the sleeper can not only fine tune the firmness level of their mattress, but they can change from one firmness level to another and know that they can return to any formerly selected firmness level with confidence. If for any reason the mattress owner needed to disconnect the pump from the mattress, our inflation system includes Air-Lock compatible fittings that make it possible to detach the air chambers from the pump without the air chambers deflating.

Connections:

The air hose is permanently sealed to the air chamber to eliminate the possibility of air loss. Special flexible rubber is used at the time of manufacture to create this single unit with no external connections. The hose includes an imbedded layer of surgical steel coil to help create a quieter and more responsive inflation process. Improved pump life and more precise control are also results of this kink free design. The connector from chamber hose to the pump is a barrel twist and lock connecter. This locks in place to prevent any type of accidental disconnect, and keeps dust, pet hair, etc. at bay. Cheaper clip-on connections can be negatively affected be these seemingly innocuous little denizens. Housed within the twist and lock connector is the seal that prevents back flow of air when the pump is detached from the air chambers, which means the user can move the mattress without deflating it.

Foam Rails:

Our foam rails use an interlocking sling system to keep the mattress square and true. The design maximizes the sleeping surface to provide the largest sleep surface possible.
